Landlord says parts finally arrived to fix the heating system after some residents in the St. Clair Ave. W. apartments spent a week in the cold.

Some tenants in a Toronto apartment building without heat for a week were still struggling with the cold last night asRepairs were underway yesterday to restore heat to The Fleetwood building at St. Clair Ave. W., near Yonge Street, with about 200 residents.

Tenant Darren Driver said the temperature in his apartment had dropped to 10-12C. He said the radiator pipes make a “loud clanking” that sound like “a transport truck running over metal barrels” while he tries to sleep at night. Driver noted that RentSafeTO had been contacted to report the breach of property standards, and that the city has been “very responsive” by sending officials to check on the tenants and pressuring the property manager to address the issues. He notes this is the third time the building has been without heat this winter.

“I feel humiliated,” she said, adding that she’d contacted her landlord several times but had been repeatedly ignored. Steam trap parts needed to begin repairs arrived at the building on Thursday morning, Usher told the Star. He added that Cherishome Living, the parent company of the building’s landlord, will also cover the additional hydro costs from the use of the space heaters after tenants expressed concerns about paying extra fees
