The massive development, proposed by Starlight Developments, is a controversial project due its size and scope. It requires rezoning and an amendment to the city’s Official Community Plan.
A decision on whether or not the City of Victoria will approve a massive reinvention of the Harris Green neighbourhood will have to wait until next week.
The project envisions tearing down all of the existing commercial buildings in several phases to make way for a project that would include residential towers with an estimated 1,500 rental suites, more than 100,000 square feet of commercial buildings and green space. Those against it cited the sheer size of the project, the height of the towers and the eight-to-10 years of continued construction the three-phase project represents in a neighbourhood where the noise and disruption of construction has been a daily reality for the past five years.
