Premier Andrew Furey says the new health care transfer will see an extra $100 million put into this province each year.offers less money than the provinces were hoping for, but any extra funding is good news for the province.
The premier says the extra funds will help address a number of issues including the replacement of the outdated system used to store medical records, mental health treatment, as well as recruitment and retention. Besides the modernization of health care, the province will have more resources available to address issues highlighted in the health accord.
He says more focus needs to be put on the social determinants of health—something he believes has been largely underfunded. He says the government wants to change that and provide more support to combat social issues such as poverty.
