Alex Connolly is this year’s youngest member of the Young Rich List after helping create Australia’s third most valuable privately held tech company.
For him, debuting on the Young Rich List is serendipitous.
“I was working until 12am or 1am in the morning,” he said. “I would go over to Robbie and James’ and set up camp in the kitchen of their parents’ place at one of the towers of Barangaroo and I would work there until 5am or so. . But it became much more. The trio worked out how to build a platform that could allow other companies to build businesses offering digital assets, known as non-fungible tokens, at scale.Their solution, Immutable X, is a system that uses a roll-up technology to significantly reduce the energy needed in blockchain transactions, cutting out enormous fees that emerged as a huge obstacle for many game developers.Connolly didn’t think his passion for video games could be turned into a career.
