KUALA LUMPUR: A training stint in Doha is expected to toughen up the national Under-17 squad.
The team will begin their centralised training tour series in Qatar until April 21 ahead of the Under-17 Asian Cup in Thailand, next June.
Team manager Christopher Raj said all preparations had been carefully planned, including three friendly matches in Doha, which will be crucial in improving the players.“This is the third phase of centralised training, that started last January to enable coach Osmera Omaro to field the best squad for the Under-17 Asian Cup tournament,” said Christopher.
“Our plan is to improve the team’s game to face the fierce competition from big Asian countries that will fight for four slots to represent Asia at the Under-17 World Cup at the end of this year,” he said. He added that the national Under-17 squad will take part in a friendly match against Saudi Arabia on June 8 before leaving for Bangkok. — Bernama
