Malaysia's national football team, Harimau Malaya, is undergoing a transformation by incorporating more mixed-race and heritage players into the squad. This move aims to strengthen the team and compete at a higher level. The new head coach, Peter Cklamovski, is spearheading this revolution, which involves identifying and recruiting talented Malaysian heritage players from abroad.
PETALING JAYA: The term 'anak jati' (local born) Malaysia will no longer be used in the Harimau Malaya squad as the national team will be fielding more mixed-race or heritage players in the future. The Harimau Malaya revolution certainly promises something exciting for the development of Malaysian football as the new head coach of the national squad, Peter Cklamovski from Australia, has been announced.
Using heritage players is not a new thing in the world of football as powerhouse nations also use the same approach to strengthen their respective teams. Currently, there are several players said to have ties to Malaysia, including 26-year-old Chelsea player, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Marcus Tavernier who plays for Bournemouth. In addition, Burnley FC players, Josh Brownhill and Zian Flemming, Jamie Shackleton (Sheffield United), Taylor Moore (Bristol Rovers), Harvey Knibbs (Reading FC) and Andy Smith (Hull City) are also on the list. Previously, the initiator of the Harimau Malaya revolution, Tunku Mahkota Ismail confirmed that he will be meeting with representatives of the International Football Federation (FIFA) to obtain data on Malaysian heritage players playing abroad. If this effort is successful, local football fans will witness a 'new face' of Harimau Malaya, consisting of high-quality heritage players to compete at the highest level. - UTUSA
