PETALING JAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh got down to work in helping world No. 4 Lee Zii Jia to achieve his dream of delivering Malaysia’s first gold in badminton at the Paris Olympics by meeting him yesterday.
Hannah, after having witnessed Zii Jia’s recent struggles on the international stage, met with the player together with Road To Gold coordinator Stuart Ramalingam to discuss ways to offer assistance for the independent shuttler to achieve his golden dream.
A legal wrangle with the coach had also made matters worse for the 25-year-old but he managed to find his footing in the All England in Birmingham and the Swiss Open in Basel where he reached the semi-finals in both tournaments last month. “I met Lee Zii Jia together with RTG coordinator Stuart Ramalingam this morning. It was a positive meeting. Lee Zii Jia supports the RTG initiative and is thankful for being included in this national project,” stated Hannah in her Facebook account.
Hannah also added that Stuart will further discuss with Zii Jia’s people, most likely his sister and manager Lee Zii Yii on the possibilities of arranging the coaching and sparring for him.
