Hampton Inn employee fired for calling cops on Black guests at the pool; Hilton apologizes

A Hampton Inn employee has been fired after calling the police on a Black family using the hotel's swimming pool in Williamston, North Carolina.

Williamston Police told USA TODAY that officers responded to the Hampton Inn regarding a"subject trespassing." According to a police report, the hotel employee said the children were found in the pool"unattended" and"located an adult responsible for the children sitting in a vehicle … in the parking lot."

"It was two white people sitting over there and she said nothing to them," Williams-Wright said in the video."She said to me, 'Oh, because it’s always people like you using the pool unauthorized.' Who is 'people like me'?" "Once I prove that I have a room, that was for you to walk away," Williams-Wright said to one of the officers. "I didn’t commit a crime. You are degrading me like this in front of my kids. They are trying to enjoy themselves in the pool."

"The Williamston Police Department takes the complaint process very seriously," the statement said."Our office will conduct a thorough and complete internal investigation. We appreciate the public’s concern and efforts to make us aware of this incident."
