"We know that the pandemic has been linked to lots of mental health concerns for children and adults," Rhodes told 9News.

Rhodes however said when anxiety starts affecting a child's ability to get on with life, then it might be time to explore professional help. "If it's happening daily and it's going on for a period of weeks, then that's a time to think about reaching out for help," she said.Pediatrician Anthea Rhodes said it was "normal" for children to worry sometimes, but and said it was understandable for parents not always recognise anxiety.

The report surveyed parents of more than 2000 children aged between three and 17 in July and August this year.Rhodes said the signs of anxiety include difficulty sleeping, avoiding everyday situations, tantrums or meltdowns, headaches or tummy aches, and changes in appetite. "For parents at the moment, if you are experiencing some anxiety in your household, there are things somethings you can do at home to manage anxiety," she said.
