Half of new Westpac loans risk exceeding buffers

Westpac has told investors almost half of its home loans were written using buffers that will be exceeded.

The bank says of its almost $500 billion worth of loans, 45 per cent were taken up, assuming the terminal interest rate will be less than its expected to be under the RBA.

Westpac added a quarter of those customers have seen no change to their repayments as they were ahead and a third of those customers are more than 12 months ahead of repayments.
