Matthew Guy has slammed “faceless leakers” within his party who he says undermined his election tilt last year. The former leader also took aim at Sky News commentators, who he said were damaging to the Coalition.
Guy said leaked stories about the internal machinations of the Liberal Party regularly came from former members of the party’s administrative committee, as well as staffers.Guy’s former chief of staff resigned from his role in August last year after this masthead revealedmake more than $100,000 in payments to his private marketing business, in addition to his taxpayer-funded salary.
“I think you can get caught down in rabbit holes. You can go down all these ones and say, ‘Was it this? Was it that?’ No, it wasn’t. It was lots of things,” he said. “We’re working through those issues as we build our campaign resources and capabilities going forward. Matthew is a very good friend of mine – and ours – and has a really constructive role to play, and he’ll continue to do that,” Pesutto said.
