Auxiliary constables are volunteer members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, and accompany regular members on patrol and at events throughout the community
Aimed at attracting at least 10 volunteer auxiliary constables, Greater Sudbury Police Service is hosting a virtual information session on Thursday evening.
“It is a really neat opportunity,” Hager said, adding that some members come in with no greater aspiration than to volunteer for their community, and end up becoming inspired enough through their work with police that they end up pursuing a career. “It’s nice to get out and meet some new people and interact with community members and just talk,” he said. “It’s just the experience, building relationships with people. We’re able to ask questions and see firsthand what goes on and the challenges police officers face.”
Unlike volunteer firefighters, who are paid for their work, the volunteer auxiliary constable positions are unpaid.
