GSIS sets aside almost P4.4 billion in emergency loans for 166,789 active members and pensioners in nine Luzon areas affected by typhoons and the southwest monsoon, with application windows varying per location.

THE Government Service Insurance System ( GSIS) has earmarked nearly P4.4 billion in emergency loan s for 166,789 active members and old-age and disability pensioners across nine areas in Luzon that were affected by recent typhoons and the southwest monsoon.

The allocation forms part of the state pension fund's continuing effort to provide immediate financial relief to government employees and pensioners hit by successive weather disturbances that triggered widespread flooding and displacement in several provinces. In Pampanga; Calumpit, Bulacan; and Mangaldan and Dagupan City, Pangasinan, a total of 65,737 members and pensioners working or residing in the affected areas may apply for the emergency loan until Sept. 13, 2026. In Sta.

Barbara, Pangasinan, 1,964 members and pensioners may apply until Sept. 18, while those in Hagonoy, Bulacan, and Masinloc, Zambales, may submit their applications until Sept. 20. Meanwhile, a total of 94,750 eligible members and pensioners in Cavite and Rodriguez, Rizal, may apply until Nov. 12 and Nov. 16, respectively.

Active GSIS members working or residing in the affected areas may apply for the emergency loan provided they have no due and demandable GSIS loan; are not on unpaid leave; have paid at least three months of premiums within the six months immediately preceding the application; have no pending administrative or criminal case; and have a monthly take-home pay of at least P5,000 after deductions. Old-age and disability pensioners residing in the affected areas may also apply, provided that their net monthly pension after loan amortization is at least 25 percent of their basic monthly pension.

Qualified members and pensioners with no existing emergency loan may borrow P20,000, while those with an outstanding balance on a previous emergency loan may avail of up to P40,000, subject to existing GSIS policies. Members and pensioners may conveniently apply through the GSIS Touch mobile app, with approved loan proceeds credited directly to their GSIS eCard or UMID card.

The emergency loan program carries a low interest rate and is payable in equal monthly installments over a set period, making repayment manageable for borrowers recovering from the financial impact of the calamities. GSIS has reminded qualified applicants to ensure their contact details and membership records are updated to facilitate smooth processing of their applications and to avoid unnecessary delays in the release of loan proceeds.

The pension fund also urged affected members and pensioners to take advantage of the program within the prescribed application periods to receive timely assistance as they rebuild their lives in the wake of the destructive typhoons and persistent monsoon rains
