Roots of Health, a Palawan-based organization, calls for the full implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in Philippine schools, responding to campaigns against it. They emphasize the importance of accurate information for young people's health and well-being, citing alarming rates of teenage pregnancy.

Merlina Hernando-MalipotAn organization dedicated to empowering women and young people through sexual and reproductive health education and services has called for the full implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in schools under the Department of Education nationwide.

Evangelista-Swanepoel also stressed that while young people cannot be shielded from the realities of life, “we can prepare them to face these realities with confidence and clarity.”Contrary to the claims of critics, Roots of Health stressed that CSE provides reliable and science-backed information for families.

“The misconceptions perpetuated about CSE reflect a broader societal discomfort with adolescent sexuality, but denying young people access to critical information only exacerbates the problem,” Evangelista-Swanepoel said. "Many parents worry that sex education will encourage early sexual activity, but studies consistently show that young people who receive CSE are more likely to delay sexual activity and practice safer behaviors," Evangelista-Swanepoel explained.

Laity Group Urges Senate to Reject Bill on Adolescent PregnancyLaity Group Urges Senate to Reject Bill on Adolescent PregnancyA Filipino laity group, Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (Laiko), is calling on the Senate to reject the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy Act of 2023. They argue the bill is 'diabolical' and undermines the role of parents in guiding their children's sexual education. The group specifically criticizes a provision allowing adolescents aged 10 to 19 access to sexual education and materials without parental consent. They warn this could lead to children receiving information without parental guidance. The bill, however, aims to address the rising number of teenage pregnancies in the country by providing age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). Proponents, including Senator Risa Hontiveros, maintain the bill safeguards parental involvement and does not seek to replace parents in the education process.
