Sky News host Cory Bernardi says a group of senators were seen at a “smoking ceremony” in Western Australia for a committee inquiry into the deaths and disappearances of Aboriginal women and children.

“After the committee returned to Canberra the invoices started to arrive and insiders tell me there was a $1500 dollar fee for the smoking ceremony and it’s been told to me … allegedly another $1500 for the welcome to country and then a further $2000 dollars for the six cultural sticks.

“That’s a total of $5000 dollars for lighting a fire, giving a bunch of entitled politicians some cultural sticks. “Apparently the bills were somewhat of a surprise to the committee who after quite a lengthy discussion I’m assured – decided that charging the taxpayers for these sacred sticks, ‘wouldn’t wash’ – they decided to pick up that tab for themselves.”
