BREAKING: Gold Coast streets have been shut down after someone surrendered grenades and firearms to a building on Wednesday morning.
A person surrendering three grenades and three firearms has prompted an emergency declaration, shutting streets down on the Gold Coast.The declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made about 8.45am at Southport on Wednesday, with boundaries encompassing Bay Street between Davenport Street and Rawlins Street.
Police were called to Bay Street about 8.20am after the weapons were surrendered to an office building.“Residents within the exclusion zone are urged to stay inside their properties, while occupants of the office building have been evacuated,” police said. “Police are currently conducting emergency operations in the area and requesting members of the public not attend the area.”
