Gregoria’s glory in Spain a badly needed boost for Indonesian women’s singles

PETALING JAYA: Indonesia is known as a badminton superpower but have been lacking in the women’s singles department for some time.

Gregoria ended her World Tour title drought in style by scoring a sensational 21-8, 21-8 victory over India’s 2019 world champion P. V. Sindhu in the final of the Spain Masters in Madrid on Sunday.World No. 12 Gregoria had been on fire throughout the tournament and had toppled home favourite and three-time world champion Carolina Marin in the last four.

Gregoria’s best achievement previously was finishing runners-up in the Australian Open last November.
