Greg Norman is back in Australia ahead of the LIV Golf International in Adelaide this week. 7NEWS
To the shock of onlookers - and perhaps even himself - ‘The Shark’ came millimetres away from an ace on the par-three fifth hole on the west course.“Put me in coach,” he joked to Cameron Smith, captain of LIV Golf’s all-Aussie team Ripper GC.LIV Golf’s first Australian event will take place on April 21-23 at The Grange - the very same venue where Norman won his first professional tournament.
The LIV Golf chief executive’s appearance at Royal Melbourne will likely fuel speculation that the 2019 President’s Cup venue could join Adelaide on next year’s calendar.“That was kind of one of the reasons I went over - to spend more time there and to play more golf there would be even better,” he said.
The 29-year-old said he would spend a few days in his hometown Brisbane before making his way to South Australia.“There will be a little bit of catch-ups, but there’s some work because I wasn’t really happy with how this week went.”Smith, meanwhile, refused to buy into the theory he was lacking a competitive edge at the Masters after playing only five tournaments this year prior to the first major.
“I typically don’t play before this week and I don’t think it was much of a hindrance to play beforehand,” Smith said.“ it usually makes you work harder and hopefully there’s some good stuff to come. “I’ve always said there’s enough top-level guys to keep you on your toes. It wasn’t really surprising to see a few guys up there. It’s great for the tour.”
