The Greens claimed four seats and controversial Liberal candidate Renee Heath became an MP when the make-up of Victoria’s upper house of state parliament was confirmed on Wednesday.
That result was confirmed on Wednesday and greeted by gasps when Patten’s name came up as unsuccessful. Labor’s Sheena Watt and Enver Erdogan were re-elected, alongside Somyurek, Liberal Evan Mulholland and re-elected Greens leader Samantha Ratnam.Moments later applause broke out as Georgie Purcell was elected as a representative of Animal Justice in the Northern Victoria region.
The Legalise Cannabis party celebrated its entry to parliament when results for the South-Eastern Metropolitan region were declared. The other MPs for South-Eastern Metropolitan will be Lee Tarlamis and Michael Galea, both of Labor, and Liberal Ann-Marie Hermans. Liberal hopeful Manju Hanumantharayappa was unsuccessful.
Lizzie Blandthorn and Ingrid Stitt from Labor and Liberals Moira Deeming and Trung Luu were also elected to the region.
