Former Greens councillor Jonathan Sriranganathan has announced a new plan to “pay the rent” through grants to Indigenous-led groups should he become Brisbane’s mayor next year.

Mr Sriranganathan declared he would be running as the Greens candidate for the high-ranking position in the local government elections in 2024.

Jonathan Sriranganathan launched his mayoral campaign on Sunday. He is also hoping to crack down on short-term rental accommodation in the city in an effort to free up more supply for locals having trouble finding a rental.
