Greenpeace urges Asian chip makers to cut soaring emissions
Greenpeace says the global semiconductor manufacturing industry is projected to emit 86 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2030, more than double Portugal’s total emissions in 2021. – AFP pic, April 20, 2023.
THE energy required to make chips for electronics, used in everything from smartphones to artificial intelligence hardware and cars, will skyrocket this decade, Greenpeace said today. This requires major firms to commit to seriously cutting emissions, the environmental civil society group said. Effective July 2018, access to full reports will only be available with a subscription.
