Personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has released a green sea turtle back to its natural habitat in Zamboanga del Norte. The DENR-Zamboanga Peninsula said the turtle was found by Jerry Eguia in a fish corral in Panganoran village, Sibutad, Zamboanga del Norte. Eguia turned over the turtle to Forest Protection Officer Marlon Cabilin, who reported the find to CENRO-Piñan while securing the turtle at his residence in Linabo village, Dapitan City.
A team of Cenro-Piñan assessed the Green Sea Turtle to be in good health and fit for release back into its natural habitat. The DENR said the turtle had a carapace measuring 43 centimeters in length and 41 centimeters in width and weighed approximately 10 kilograms. The DENR said the green sea turtle is classified as an endangered species under Department Administrative Order 2019-0, the Updated National List of Threatened Philippine Fauna and their Categories. The DENR continues to encourage the public to report sightings or encounters of wildlife for immediate and proper action
