When Greens elect their new leader next month, the ballot will feature a familiar face proposing a new leadership model. Elizabeth May is pursuing her old job, but also wants to share the role with Jonathan Pedneault, a human rights activist. Here's why.
When Green Party members vote to determine who will succeed Annamie Paul as leader next month, the ballot will feature a familiar face proposing an unfamiliar leadership model.
Elizabeth May, who currently holds one of the party’s two seats, served as Green leader from 2006 to 2019. Earlier this summer, it wasthat she had not only decided to pursue her old job but was also looking to share responsibilities with Jonathan Pedneault, a francophone human rights activist. “I’ve been thinking for years we should move to the co-leadership model,” said May. “If we had that model in 2019, we wouldn’t have run into any of the difficulties we’ve had in the last couple of years.”
