Matthew Tkachuk is returning to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday night with the Florida Panthers for the first time since he was traded.
From the start, Flames GM Brad Treliving credited Tkachuk and his agent Craig Oster for being upfront and honest about their decision to move on from Calgary.
You’d expect there to be more of the same good vibes on Tuesday night. There will almost certainly be a tribute/thank-you video played on the big screen for Tkachuk, if not more. The fans in the stands will likely do their part, too.Article content “I think he came here a very young player, drafted, made the team right away and he’s a unique player and he scored goals for this organization for, how many years? I don’t know, but a lot of years,” said Flames centre Mikael Backlund, who often found himself on the same line as Tkachuk during his tenure in Calgary. “Just a special, talented player … He did a great job, too, in the community, working with the Children’s Hospital and other charities and was also a great leader for the team.
“Matthew was here for a long time and was a great teammate to have. I’ve known Chucky since I was seven or eight years old, so it’ll be cool for him to come back to the building and playing in front of the crowd again,” said Flames defenceman Noah Hanifin. “He was a big part of it here and obviously did a lot of work with the Children’s Hospital.
