Concern for the future, and the belief that the current system has failed, are leading today\u0027s youth away from representative government.

entitled “The Kids Aren’t Alright: Why young are detaching from democratic and social norms — and what to do about it.” It paints an alarming picture.

Another statistic from the report: sixty-one per cent of the U.K.’s 18-to-34s agree that “having a strong leader who does not have to bother with parliament and elections would be a good way of governing this country.” Well above half think that doing away with parliament and elections would be a good idea. Further, more than 25 per cent of 18-to-34s in the U.K. believe that “democracy is a bad way of governing the country” —a rate three times higher than among those over 55.
