Govt urges Fama to solve chicken shortage before Raya

THE Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority has been asked to solve the chicken shortage in several areas immediately to ensure Raya preparations are not affected, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu. Met by the media after his ministry’s bubur lambuk distribution event in Putrajaya today, Sabu said Fama will find a way to address the supply shortage.
“So far, I have not received a report on how many places are experiencing a chicken shortage. Temporary shortages in some places before the festive season sometimes happen, but the ministry guarantees food supply is sufficient, especially for the eight main commodities – egg, chicken, meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, rice and fresh milk,” he said.
Earlier, Utusan Malaysia reported traders at Pasar Besar Klang feared insufficient chicken supply a week before Raya despite high demand from consumers.The media also reported chicken supply problems are expected to hit northern states, especially Kedah, ahead of Raya. – Bernama, April 12, 2023.
