Govt to review all monopolies to ensure better, fair service
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says the principle of transparent economic development warrants a move away from what he considers to be chaotic, obsolete and catering to vested interests in terms of monopolies. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 24, 2023.
Anwar said all ministries have been asked to study the rationale behind allowing monopolies so that there would be a fair assessment of the issue. He was commenting on whether the government is looking to unravel more monopolies following the decision to end Puspakom Sdn Bhd’s monopoly on vehicle inspections.
“If our concern is to protect the interest of the Bumiputera, then make it very clear, make it very transparent, and let Bumiputera concerns compete.
