Government taking a step that’s likely to cause at-risk veterans ‘serious harm’

Sky News host Amanda Stoker says, “now more than ever” there is an appreciation that there is a toll taken by the work Australia asks those serving in the armed forces to do.

Ms Stoker said the Albanese government is taking a step that has the potential to cause at-risk veterans “serious harm”.

“The step-up program pilot was introduced to allow veterans on incapacity payments to conduct an approved rehabilitation program with study as part of that program, to remain on 100 per cent of their pre-injury earnings,” she said. “The program’s due to end on the 30th of June 2023, and the government hasn’t committed to continuing it.

“That means injured veterans face an imminent 25 per cent pay cut, all for being hurt in the service of their country.”
