The Albanese Government has hinted at changes to the myGov app as part of a push to improve the way Australians have digital access to services and personal identification.

State driver's licences could one day be integrated into myGov accounts along with Medicare cards as the Albanese Government looks to make the platform a piece of"critical national infrastructure".

"The myGov app has the potential, this report says, to be a long-term part of how Australians deal with government," Mr Shorten told reporters. "It requires a long-term vision, but the proposition that Australians could go to one app to deal with government, I think is a very exciting thing. An average 1.4 million Australians access their myGov on a daily basis, with a total of 25 million authenticated accounts.
