'Good experience': Campgrounds busy despite record temperatures, smoke over May long weekend abfire
Despite volatile wildfire conditions and hazy skies, campgrounds in many popular Alberta getaways were busy throughout the Victoria Day long weekend. Sigfried Schwarz, an owner of Mount Kidd RV Park and Campground, said the park was fully booked through the holiday weekend. He said the Kananaskis area campground saw only one group of “bad apples” who lit a campfire. The campers quickly put out the blaze when staff visited the site. “I mean, 99.9 per cent of the people understand, and we do have a lot of campers that use propane fires … Some people use those, and other people just don’t have a fire,” he said. “We still have play areas for the kids, we have tennis courts, lots of hiking trails and stuff — people find other things to do.”
