'Gone With the Wind' has been temporarily pulled by HBO Max.
Ridley called on HBO Max to pull the film -- which tells the story of a tumultuous love affair between two wealthy Southern aristocrats and is set against the backdrop of the end of the Civil War and the destruction of the Confederacy. Ridley argued that the movie"doesn’t just 'fall short' with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south."
"It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color," Ridley wrote.
However, a spokesperson for HBO Max explained that the film would eventually return to their streaming catalog, along with additional content that would contextualize the controversial historical depictions and elements of the story.is a product of its time and depicts some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that have, unfortunately, been commonplace in American society.
