‘Bogeys for Bursaries’ raises more than $8,000 to provide bursaries for women pursuing a career in mining

Northern Ontario's mining and mining support industries stepped up last week to take part in a benefit golf tournament in support of women pursuing a career in mining.

"Organized by Calstone Search with support from Women in Mining Sudbury, this tournament was an opportunity to celebrate and empower women in the industry while fundraising to financially support female students pursuing their education towards a career in mining," said a company news release. “As a firm focused on staffing in the natural resources sector, our core business of which is recruitment services for mining and mining support companies, we are regularly reminded of the lack of representation for women in mining.

After a round on the course, teams gathered at the clubhouse to enjoy charcuterie, drinks, networking, and prizes donated by tournament sponsors. Wendy Nemeth, guest speaker and a distinguished wellness entrepreneur with a long career in engineering, delivered a thought-provoking talk on the importance of diversity and inclusion in mining and explained how women play a critical role in the industry.
