Put differently, those who disagree with the prevailing vision are seen as being not merely in error, but in sin … the benighted are to be made ‘aware,’ to have their ‘consciousness raised,’ and the wistful hope is held out that they will ‘grow.
As Liberal MP Joel Lightbound observed following the 2021 federal election, during which Trudeau weaponized the issue of vaccine mandates – a strategy he continued when he invoked the Emergencies Act: “I can’t help but notice with regret that both the tone and the policies of my government changed drastically on the eve and during the last election campaign. From a positive and unifying approach, a decision was made to wedge, to divide and to stigmatize … Now that we have one of the most vaccinated populations in the world, we’ve never been so divided.
But to suggest that’s why Canadians are divided, while absolving from all responsibility the man who has led the country for eight years, is absurd.
