Social Worker Nicole Stevenson, MSW, RSW, who works in local schools, has made her own personal commitment the past couple of years to helping resolve the footwear need. The schools gave her a list of names of students who would benefit from the initiative along with their sizes and any special adaptations, according to a press release from the Golden K members.

The dream was to have the sneakers purchased or donated and then delivered to the students by early September. With the help of the Golden K Club here in Cape Breton, and the generosity of Sport Chek in the Mayflower Mall in Sydney, as of Aug.11, 183 pairs of quality sneakers are now available for distribution to youth. The community spirit and dedication shown by all during this effort is both impressive and heart-rendering.
