Veteran actress Gloria Romero , known as the 'Queen of Philippine Cinema ,' has passed away at the age of 91. Her family confirmed her death through Maritess Gutierrez, Gloria's daughter, announcing the news via Facebook. 'It is with great sadness I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Gloria Galla Gutierrez, aka Gloria Romero , who peacefully joined our Creator earlier today, January 25, 2025,' Maritess stated in her Facebook post.

The wake for Gloria will be held at Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City. 'In this time of loss, our family deeply appreciates the support, prayers, sympathy, all the lovely messages, and heartfelt condolences that we've received. She will surely be missed dearly,' added Maritess.Gloria has starred in countless films throughout her illustrious career, including Palasig (1952), Cofradia (1953), Kurdapya (1954), Dalagang Ilocana (1954), Sino Ang May Sala? (1957), Lipad, Darna, Lipad! (1973), Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit (1989), Tanging Yaman (2000), Bahay Ni Lola (2001), Magnifico (2003), and Rainbow's Sunset (2018). Notably, she became the oldest woman at 85 to win Best Actress in the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival for her role in Rainbow's Sunset.Her accolades extend to three FAMAS Awards, two Gawad Urian Awards, and three Metro Manila Film Festival wins. Additionally, she received three Luna Awards from the Film Academy of the Philippines and two PMPC Star Awards for Movies. She also earned the Best Comedy Actress award at the PMPC Star Awards for Television for her role in the sitcom Palibhasa Lalake (1987). Gloria's international recognition for Rainbow's Sunset brought her two International Film Festival Manhattan Awards for Best Actress and Best Ensemble Acting. On the Kapuso Network, she appeared in Munting Heredera (2011), Forever (2013), Niño (2014), and supporting roles in The Rich Man's Daughter (2015), Juan Happy Love Story (2016), and Meant to Be (2017).
