The company behind the biggest offshore wind project in Bass Strait has confirmed a Gippsland port will play a major role in its operations if it goes ahead. More than 200 long-term jobs would be created at the facility.

Star of the South chief development officer Erin Coldham said about 200 long-term jobs would be created, plus another 750 jobs during the three-to-five-year wind farm construction phase. The Australian government has granted an exploration licence to Star of the South to investigate the site, which would take up to 10 years to develop.
