FileSUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Kool Breeze Farms, in collaboration with the P.E.I. Giant Pumpkin and Squash Growers Association is hosting the 29th annual Giant Pumpkin and Squash Weigh-Off on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Normally the event is hosted by Vesey’s Seeds and Silver Bells Tree Farm, however, this year the Simmons Family at Kool Breeze Farm has taken on the role of host. “This is our gift to the community to thank them for their support throughout the year,” said Ian Simmons.Entries for the contest can be received at 231 Read Dr., behind the Ice Cream Barn, between 9-10:30 a.m. There is an entry fee for pumpkins or squash of $15, but the event is free to the public.
The weigh-off will begin at noon, and a barbecue will be held, with proceeds going to the association and Summerside’s Generation XX. The Field of Fun features straw creations, tractors, spiders, trains, superheroes, animals and other family-friendly activities for free.Pink pumpkins will be on sale, with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
