It will be Team USA versus Germany in the other half of the semifinal battle on Friday in the FIBA World Cup 2023. Germany escaped past Latvia, 81-79, on Wednesday in their quarterfinal match at the Mall of Asia to advance to the next knockout phase that will determine the finalists on Sunday.
Latvia climbed from nine points down, 79-70, in the final two minutes but David Bertans missed what could have been a game-winning triple as time expired, allowing Germany to preserve the win. NBA star Dennis Schroder took the backseat in offense with just a nine-point production, but four others carried the scoring brunt with Franz Wagner leading with his all-around game of 16 points, rebounds, and 3 assists. The other Germans, who finished in the double figures were Andreas Obst, who had 13, Moritz Wagner , and Johannes Thiemann .Team USA booked a semifinal berth on Tuesday night after thumping Italy, 100-63, with Mikal Bridges and Tyrese Haliburton leading the three-point party. Bridges topped with 24 points on 8 of 11 shooting, four of them from beyond the arc. Haliburton played able back-up with his 18 points, all of them coming from the three-point zone.ADVERTISEMENT
