'Philippines, Province of China' and 'North Philippines: Province of China' became location options on Facebook and Instagram, drawing ire from users, who woke up Saturday with the geotags activated on both platforms.

MANILA—A peculiar location tag that looks to mock the country has apparently started to appear on some social media sites.

ICYMI: Social media platforms Facebook and Instagram now include "Philippines, Province of China" as a tagged location. pic.twitter.com/lE82I8EZLkSenator Risa Hontiveros slammed the creation of the geotag, saying it should be taken seriously even if some users treated it as a joke."Katunog siya ng mga mangingisda nating tinataboy mula sa sarili nating mga karagatan. Katunog siya ng propagandang Wow China na ini-ere sa sarili nating radio station," the senator said.

"Hindi tayo Province of China! Never were and never will be!" she said. "Kailangan natin ngayon lakasan ang tapang ng ating pagka-Pilipino."
