A Geelong boy is fighting for his life and his mother remains in stable condition with extensive injuries after a ‘dream’ helicopter gift turned tragic mere 20 seconds after lifting off the ground.
Winnie de Silva, 33, and her nine-year-old son Leon, from Geelong West were among three survivors who were seriously injured during the horrifying incident which killed four people on Monday.

Offer ends 31 October, 2023 Mrs de Silva’s husband Neil told the Herald Sun he prayed in the two hours it took for him to find out that his wife and stepson survived the crash, after watching the disaster unfold.
The Gold Coast holiday was meant to be a celebration of the mother and son reuniting, after Mrs de Silva secured a visa for Leon from Kenya last year.
