The University of Ottawa will play host to the university men’s hockey championships in March, 2025.
U Sports alluded to the Gee-Gees success in playing host to the 2020 Final 8 basketball championship as an indication of the success a national tournament can have in the city.Advertisement 3“We look forward to putting on an event that inspires and ignites both the spirit and campus and the entire National Capital region,” said University of Ottawa’s Director of Recreation and Varsity Sports.
While the Arena at TD Place serves primarily as the home of the Ottawa 67’s, OSEG has also worked to attract additional major events to the rink. The 2023 world curling championships will be held at the arena in April. “As a passionate supporter of U Sports and varsity athletics, along with our long-standing relationship with the University of Ottawa, we’re looking forward to an exciting tournament showcasing the best of Canadian men’s university hockey.”
The Gee-Gees were contending for the 2020 national title in Halifax when COVID-19 arrived and cancelled the tournament. The 2021 and 2022 championships were also cancelled due to the pandemic. The 2023 tournament will be hosted by the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown and Toronto Metropolitan University will be the site of the 2024 competition.
