The National Capital Commission is hoping to have a lease with the Senators\u0027 new owners in place by the fall.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly are due in Ottawa on Monday for meetings, including those with Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and representatives of the National Capital Commission.If all goes as planned, the new arena will be built on a six-acre parcel of land on Albert Street between Preston Street and City Centre, just west of Ottawa’s new central library, which is now under construction.Should the new owners want to increase the footprint, it doesn’t hurt to ask.
“We’re in a period now of due diligence and further discussions on the basis of the that was signed in June last year,” Nussbaum said. “We’re feeling very optimistic, and the intention is still to have a formal lease signed in the fall of 2023.” In the bid submitted by the Senators to the NCC, with several deep-pocked partners that have experience in funding this kind of project, the club entered plans for a new arena and an accompanying hotel.
The Senators vision includes an area around the rink like L.A. Live, which is located next to Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Rogers Place Arena in Edmonton modelled the Ice District arounds its new rink after L.A.
