The Senators winger trains with the Avalanche centre and other NHL stars in Nova Scotia during the off\u002Dseason.
The 24-year-old Batherson makes his home in the Annapolis Valley, close to MacKinnon. He also skates with the likes of MacKinnon, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand during the off-season.
It was neat for Batherson to see it first-hand. MacKinnon had a private party for 40 people at his home the first day and the second day was spent time raising money for charity plus the parade. “It’s been huge for me,” Batherson said. “I got to skate with them right after I got drafted, and I think I made my biggest strides in the summer skating and being able to learn from them.

It’s just his drive to get better and to win. With those guys, everything is about winning.
“You watch what they work on, how hard they work and all of those things,” Smith said. “If you want to be the best, the saying is that you’ve to beat the best. Well, if you want to be one of those guys, you’ve got to do what they do and you need to do it a little harder.
