A league source confirmed to Postmedia on Sunday that the sale of the team, to a group led by majority owner Michael Andlauer, will be completed this week with training camp set to open with physicals Wednesday at the Canadian Tire Centre.Ten months after the Senators were officially put up for sale by the estate of late Eugene Melnyk, Toronto healthcare billionaire Andlauer and his group will sign on the dotted line to purchase the club and the rink for $950 million .
While Andlauer will have controlling interest in the Senators, source say he could have as many as eight partners in his purchase of the club. Andlauer, 57, won’t have much time to settle into the owner’s box because the Senators have a lot on their plate before the season gets under way Oct. 11 against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh. He spent some time in Buffalo on the weekend watching the club’s prospects at the rookie tourney.
Centre Shane Pinto, who scored 20 goals and had 45 points last season, is a restricted free agent and doesn’t have a deal in place. Dorion told a crowd at Mayor Mark Sutcliffe’s breakfast Thursday at city hall that the club is “working hard” to get Pinto signed. Dorion’s top priority is to get Pinto signed to a contract and that “we’d like to see him next week when we open camp.”
