Austin Watson will do whatever it takes to come to the aid of a teammate on the ice, but off the ice and way from the rink he\u0027s also doing his part to give an assist to those who need help.

“I’m sitting here with a TSN camera in front of me talking about mental health and somebody is going to see that. It’s why I talk about it, to try to make people more comfortable about talking about their own stuff.”“If somebody is going through something, the first step really is to reach out and talk to anybody; talk to your parents, your siblings, your best friend,” said Watson. “They might not know exactly what you’re going through, but they can listen.
“You just find a lot of humility and gratitude in it. It’s something I’m absolutely proud of, but it’s a day-by-day process. Four years marked is a really great achievement, but the next day counts as well. I didn’t know we were doing our day for Bell Let’s Talk and Do it for Daron so it’s funny how things line up and you start to realize that there’s powers that work in the world for you.
“You don’t want to involve yourself in coaching or advice-giving, but we’ve learned that it’s just about being supportive. Just having somebody you’re able to talk to as a sounding board. We’ve both been through it and we understand each other because we’ve gone through the same adversity. We know each other on a very personal level and it’s beautiful thing for us because we can lean on each other.
