In 2018, the Paletta family attempted to bring a second NHL team to Southern Ontario, and it also made a bid for the Arizona Coyotes.
The company has switched its name to Alinea Group Holdings and is based in Burlington, Ont. The organization has investments in real-estate development, meat packing, the entertainment industry along with neighbourhoods in Halton and Hamilton.
League sources say the Paletta family also made a push to purchase the Arizona Coyotes before that franchise was sold to Alex Meruelo in 2019. It’s believed that deal didn’t get done because NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was able to bring Meruelo into the fold. “They’ve got the money to do this deal and they also have the real estate division,” a league source said.
Sources say there have been more than six parties that have shown interest in buying the Senators and building the new rink.
