GANDER, N.L. — A non-profit recycling facility in Gander is getting nearly $590,526 in funding support from the federal and provincial governments.

Broadening Horizons has been awarded $531,393 through the federal Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and $59,133 from the Newfoundland and Labrador government. Funding will help this social enterprise to renovate and enhance its existing recycling facility which promotes the environmental benefits of recycling to residents.It will also help enhance its pre-employment training facility for those with diverse abilities, offering them opportunities to take on various management and processing positions, with possibilities to move to permanent positions.

"After nearly 20 years in operation, this support has finally allowed us to bring our recycling program and our pre-employment program under one roof," said Dr. Carmel Casey, board chair of Broadening Horizons and family physician.
