Strong winds will buffet NSW on Sunday in the last gasp of a weather system that delivered a deluge of rain overnight, sparking evacuations, 21 flood rescues and more than 650 calls for assistance across the state.
“[The low] is expected to move quickly away from the coast, which is good news for us, the heaviest rainfall is really going to ease,” said Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Miriam Bradbury. Emergency warnings were issued for the Western Plains Tourist Park at Dubbo, the Oura Beach Camping reserve on the Murrumbidgee River near Wagga Wagga and the community of Gronos Point in the Hawkesbury region.The NSW SES received 658 requests for assistance as major flooding hit the Macquarie, Darling, Culgoa and Lachlan rivers.A spokesperson said families travelling home as school holidays draw to a close needed to be aware of their surroundings.
