But as council prepared to debate the motion asking the province to shut it down, about 40 supporters of the facility rallied outside city hall Tuesday morning, calling on councillors to vote against it.The safe consumption site in Calgary’s Sheldon Chumir Centre has been a magnet for concerns over crime and public safety in downtown Calgary.“A lot of research supports the benefits of these sites,” addictions medical specialist Dr. Kate Colizza said.

Colizza said that “really, we should be advocating for low-barrier mental health supports and investment in affordable housing.”
