Vladimir Putin once trusted Yevgeny Prigozhin so much that the assassination-phobic strongman ate at his restaurant. Now Russia has issued an arrest warrant for the man once known as 'Putin's chef'.
abc.net.au/news/wagners-apparent-mutiny-attempt-in-russia-explained/102519842Yevgeny Prigozhin was once so close to Russian President Vladimir Putin that he earned the nickname "Putin's chef".The founder of the Wagner mercenary group says his men have crossed the border from Ukraine into Russia and intend to "go all the way".
After serving a nine-year sentence, he opened a hotdog stand in St Petersburg, which eventually grew to a business empire that included high-end restaurants and convenience stores. The first sign that Prigozhin had made it into the inner circle came in the early 2000s when he regularly hosted Putin at his upscale St Petersburg restaurant, New Haven.
Putin, who is deeply afraid of assassination attempts, happily ate the meals placed before him by Prigozhin.
